 How did playing board games show CARR Values + IP skills? 

Today during class we played I whole different bunch of games with a few people. We needed to use our CARR values and show interpersonal skills while doing the games. I showed respect by respecting my group members trust and not to cheat. I showed resilience by trying to achieve the winning score. I showed all of the IP skills and I did compliment people/my other teammate and Using all of the IP skills helped me to be more engaged with the game and understand the game properly. Vanshika was in my team and we did work well together. An example of when we worked together was good sportsmanship and being honest. I think we were working at a high-ish level we worked at 3/4 because we demonstrated fair play, we worked well in our group, we encouraged each other and wouldn't need to work with teacher supervision

Verbal communication by communicating to the other person.
 I used all of the interpersonal skills including: 

Non verbal communication by pointing and using facial expressions and body language during the games.

We used active listening for the guessing game to make sure we get it right. 

I used manaakitanga / including people when we were doing the games

Negotiation / compromising for taking turns who goes first/last.

For the past tern we have been learning about governments and leaders, there are many rules to be considered to be in the government here are 5 facts about working in the government. 

1. Work as a local government before country government

2. The chances of getting a government job are poor because of high competition

3. You do not need any specific qualifications

4. Members of parliament can earn $160K-$300K per year

5. Be at least 18 years old

Mother Teresa

1. When she was born, what name was she given?  August 26 1910 and her birth name was Agnes. 

2. At what age did she join the Sisters of Loreto? She joined the Sisters of Loreto at age eighteen. 

3. Explain her calling from God.  She was on a train journey home one day during that train ride she said she was called by god to go and work with the poor and help people. 

4. a. Having won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, why did Mother Teresa turn down the prize winner’s banquet? Because she wanted to give the money to the poor and use it for a helpful reason. 

b. What does this say about her as a person? That she is a kind, genuine person who cared for everyone's needs.

6. Explain the Missionaries of Charity?  She went on a mission to spread the word about her religion and worked at a school to help some of the poor people

What I have learnt: I have learnt everything in the questions because I did not know much about her before this.

Policies | what I would keep + change

For social studies we have been looking at some policies. We chose some things we want to change and some we would keep. These are policies that I found interesting and some that I would use. 

What would I like to change?

1. The amount of money people would get while working

2. No tax on food + medicine

3. Bad built houses +earthquake damage

4. Increase money supply

5. Support the tourism sector to become more sustainable

6. Ban genetically modified engineering 

7. Stop oil and gas extraction before/ 2030

8. Review banking fees

9. No free trading for any countries

The principal is the most important person in the school

The principal is the most important person in the school. I disagree with this statement. I think students are the most important people in the school. The students make the school, there wouldn't be a school if there wasn't any students. I think students are the most important people because we are the ones needing to learn things for the future. The government makes schools for a reason (to have students educated not for the principals ) Therefore students make the school not the principal. That is why I think students are the most important people in the school.

Chemistry | Concentration and Dilution

Today we are learning about Concentration and Dilution. Concentration has more particles and dilution has less particles.  

Concentration is a measure of how much solute had been dissolved in to the solvent/how much it has been dissolved into a liquid. 

We can measure in two ways: 

1. How dilute something is (how weak it is)

2. How concentrated something is (how strong it is)

Dilution is when we make something less concentrated. We make things weaker by diluting it. 

Our experiment is making a Dilution Series. 5ml water into 5 of the test tubes and 10ml into one of the test tubes. A dilution series is when we move one of the liquids from one into the other tubes. We will be putting a piece of crystal potassium into one of the test tubes. 

The purple crystal we used was called potassium Permanganate which was the solute. The Solvent was Water. 

What happened:

While we transferred 5ml of the last liquid into the next test tubes, the solution went from concentrated to very diluted. The colour got less and less because it was more dilute. Our solution was the mixture of the crystal and water. The more we took out the liquid from the other test tube it was more dilute because of the more liquid that was in the next test tube. The start of the test tube was concentrated and the end went more dilute. 

Examples of interpersonal skills we have been using

In the activities we have been doing we have been using interpersonal skills to accomplish the game and make the game. Some of the skills we have been using are: 

1.  verbal communication when we were doing the games

2. non-verbal communication when we were doing the hula-hoop game

3. active listening when we were learning the rules and listening to each other

4. being inclusive when we were doing the hula-hoop game to include everyone to get to the other end of the court

5. we negotiated and compromised to get the right way and plan during both games.
