Being able to be confident when public speaking is an important life skill ~ DO NOW

Being able to be confident when you are public speaking is very important. How are you supposed to speak publicly while not being confident? Being confident in speaking is a very useful skill to have in your lifetime. If you have to speak in front of many people or even just a few, people will be able to tell that you are not confident in yourself or what you are speaking about and sometimes the more confident you are in your speech the more you sound right. Confidence is key. Confidence in public speaking will only become useful if you need to use it in your life. Sometimes it can be hard for some people to get up and speak clearly in front of everyone. That is why I think being able to be confident in public speaking is important. 

Should Matariki be a public holiday?

Should Matariki be a public holiday? I think Matariki should be a holiday. New Zealand should have it as a holiday because it is a very important part/day for Maori. It includes their culture and they should get to celebrate the story behind it. Everyone should get to celebrate their own traditions equally. That is why I think it is fair that Matariki should be a public holiday in New Zealand.

Your name is an important part of who you are. I think your name is an important for you. Everyone's name is different and unique, it is how people identify as it shows your individuality from everyone else. For example if you didn't have a name no one would know how to identify you or who you are.  Because of this,  I think your name is an important part of you.

3. Explain her calling from God.  She was on a train journey home one day during that train ride she said she was called by god to go and work with the poor and help people. 

4. a. Having won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, why did Mother Teresa turn down the prize winner’s banquet? Because she wanted to give the money to the poor and use it for a helpful reason. 

b. What does this say about her as a person? That she is a kind, genuine person who cared for everyone's needs.

6. Explain the Missionaries of Charity?  She went on a mission to spread the word about her religion and worked at a school to help some of the poor people

What I have learnt: I have learnt everything in the questions because I did not know much about her before this.

The principal is the most important person in the school

The principal is the most important person in the school. I disagree with this statement. I think students are the most important people in the school. The students make the school, there wouldn't be a school if there wasn't any students. I think students are the most important people because we are the ones needing to learn things for the future. The government makes schools for a reason (to have students educated not for the principals ) Therefore students make the school not the principal. That is why I think students are the most important people in the school.

 Jacinda Ardern is a good influential leader

Jacinda Ardern. Jacinda Ardern is a good influential leader. When we talk about New Zealand the whole world thinks of how Jacinda Ardern went through a global pandemic and how our country is one of the safest countries these days. Jacinda Ardern has earnt the title of youngest prime minister and third female prime minister of New Zealand. She got into politics at only seventeen years old. Her great leadership skills have made New Zealand a country the world would never forget. 

As the youngest female politician and third female prime minister of New Zealand it proves that women can be just as good as men and age is just a number. Jacinda Ardern said “All the things left to achieve is gender equality, at the top of my list.” Being so young working with politics and having an idea of what she wants to do with this country shows she is right for the influential role. With many years of politics she knows how to do things the right way. This can inspire the young women of this generation to make this country a better place; put their mark on this country. 

Jacinda Ardern stands for many things. Her values show that a country is not I, a country is we. Whenever our prime minister speaks for the country she always says we are not I am. I think that is an important skill for all leaders to have. Stepping out of traditions in her religion shows how determined she is for gender equality. Her religion was against what she wanted to make a change with. 

One of Jacinda Ardern's greatest leadership achievements is getting a whole country through a global pandemic. 5 million New Zealand citizens were told to change their everyday activities, stay home and be extra careful in what they do. It turns out that 5 million New Zealanders can actually make a difference in this world. Till this day New Zealand is one of a few countries where you can have meetings and see your family and friends. If Jacinda Ardern did not act this fast we would be still under the restrictions of all the other countries facing oxygen loss and hospital overcrowding. This is all because of Jacinda Ardern's knowledge and quick action with the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Now Jacinda Ardern will be known in history as the good leader; the influential leader of New Zealand and the one that saved many lives. Jacinda Ardern is a true influential leader to many. But most of all she helped us become the country we are today. That is why Jacinda Ardern is a good influential leader. 

WEEK 4 DO NOW - Rugby is the most definitive sport of NZ

 Rugby is the most definitive sport of NZ. I agree with this statement. I think rugby is a very popular sport in NZ and many people across the world know New Zealand as "Rugby Players". Rugby is the most popular sport of NZ. Our rugby teams is New Zealand are very well. We are also defined by rugby because if it wasn't for our teams the other side of the world probably wouldn't know who we are. But we don't always have to be defined by a certain sport or how other people perceive us. New Zealand can be defined by the people, land and more. Therefore that is why I agree with this statement. 

WEEK 4 DO NOW // Should school have more mufti days?

Should school should have more mufti days? I disagree with this statement. I think we should not have more mufti days. We should not have more mufti days because each time we wear mufti we would have to give a donation; We have to pay to wear school uniform at school and pay to wear mufti at school too. Usually the donation is a good thing but I do not think we should have more mufti days. Our school usually has a few mufti days here and there and some people could do with a bit more saving of money, you never know that $20 could have been useful for someone too. Therefore that is why I think that we should have littler mufti days.

 Are cats better than dogs? I disagree with this statement. I think dogs are better than cats. For many reasons dogs are better. I think dogs are better than cats because you can teach dogs tricks, commands and manners. When teaching your dog to do these tricks you can form a better bond with that animal. Dogs a very known to  be loyal and very loving towards their owners. Dogs could be better pets because cats are out all day and your dog can stay with you and go anywhere you want. In conclusion dogs are better pets.

Should school uniforms be mandatory? I don't personally think should uniforms should be mandatory, I think you shouldn't have to wear uniforms if you don't want to. You shouldn't have to wear uniforms if you don't want to because uniforms are very pricey and they cost a bit of money to replace if you get them dirty//wrecked or even grow out of them.If you were to be going outside playing on the field - yes you can wear p.e gear but that is just more money wasted on extra uniforms that may not even be comfortable. Also during the school years kids grow and you may be having to spend even more money on many t-shirts//uniform that could only last a year or more or less. Yes the school uniforms show where you are from but that doesn't mean if you don't wear them you don't belong there. Therefore I don't think that you should have to wear uniform.  But this doesn't mean my opinion is correct I still don't think there is anything wrong with wearing uniform or not. 

DO NOW WEEK 2 | Elephants are the greatest animals of all time?

Are elephants the greatest animals of all time? I disagree with this statement. I don't personally think elephants are the greatest animal. I think they're all equally as great. They're great animals but they are not the greatest animals of all time. Every animal is the greatest of all time. I don't think that there could be a specific animal that could be the greatest; everyone has different opinions and all animals are different with different ways of living and doing things. You can think what you want to and I'm not going to tell you that you are necessarily wrong when you could be right. Elephants can be the greatest animal of all time if you want them to be.

Should school holidays be shortened to one week? 

I don't personally think school holidays should be one week because we go to school nearly everyday for a whole year with only a few two week holidays here and there. Waking up early is something that is quite popular for the <13 years of school you have to do. The holidays are the only time where you get to sleep in other than the weekends. 

Everyone needs to have a proper rest to be able to function properly the next day or week. School starts earlier than the average time students usually wake up and it isn't easy to just wake up instantly. The holidays are some time when students can have free time and do what they want to do all day. Everyone does need some freedom in their life. It causes stress on students to have 6 hours of school 5 hours a day with only 2 day weekends. Many hours of work and little rest time. That is why I think that we shouldn't have shorter holidays.

Connected | Comprehension activity

Today we had a comprehension task and there is some questions we have to do. There is marching activity card that we had to do with out book we chose. In 2021 most of us know how to work the internet and what it is. The book was about the internet and what there is to it. Here are the questions. 

Blog-  A blog is an outlet where you can share information about anything to anyone who views it. Obviously you know what a blog is if you are looking and this. 

CD- is a compact disk. that can hold up to 80 minutes of music . 

Chat room- Chat rooms are servers that you can speak to other people. 

Computer virus- They are bugs planted in your computer and mess up your computer/device and share your private information about yourself. 

Internet- is a network that connects to devices all over the world with lots of access to many websites ect.. 

Software- Programs used by computers and "tells" it what to do

Film Review

 Film Review 

As you may have seen, for the past term we have been doing a film study on Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

New Zealander Taika Waititi was the director of the film. The theme was survival because Ricky and Hec were in the bush for months from the manhunt followed by the social services lady. Anxiously the viewers awaited the time Hec and Ricky may be caught. 

Main character/s Ricky, Hec, and Bella. They lived near the mountains and Bella never really knew where she was from and she always thought that when she would die she would go to the clouds above the mountain. Then Bella died within the first 40 minutes of the film. The film was filled with drama, significance, and adventures. 

The way Taika Waititi showed the characters persona was interesting and easy to take knowledge to. Hunt for the Wilderpeople was really laid out well and it all fit good together. I give it a 4 star rating. I recommend this to people who are interested comedy filled drama movies. 

SEXXXY Paragraph 3

This paragraph is about a photo from the movie Hunt For The Wilder People. It is the third paragraph we have wrote about the movie. We had to write about the shots/angles and how it would made the audience feel ect... 

Paragraph:

This Scene is where Ricky and Hec are hiding from the people walking above them. 

They are hiding in a bunch of trees under a small cliff so they don’t get caught by the police and Ricky was using some kind of language/hand motions to tell Hec something but it made Hec think something else. The way the producers/directors put Ricky and Hec in the position was to give the audience a bit of a scare and hesitation because they were hiding there just waiting to be seen. These shots are important because you need a bit  of a bump to boost the story up a little bit more to make you feel suspense. The shot in the photo is a mix between “two shot and Mid shots”. They do the midshot so you can see what is happening but not too much of it and obviously two shots so you can see both of the people and how they are reacting. The filmers did this in a very casual  way so you can see what is going on in the whole frame without having to cut from shot to shot. 

Every paragraph we get better and better. 

Student Choice / Fast Finishing

If you haven't watched Hunt For The Wilder People and you want to know more about one of the main characters you can look at the slide I did. I did an activity that continues from one of the last blog posts I posted. It is about Ricky Baker from the movie I said before. 

   

Conflict+Chaos

For the past few weeks we have been doing Conflict and Chaos. We watched Hunt for the Wilder People and had to make a paragraph showing Conflict/Chaos in the movie. This slide helped me in some ways because it was like a plan for the "sexxxy paragraph" and helped me remember what happened and their backstories. 

In Hunt for the Wilder people, Hec and Bella had a conflict because Bella wanted to get Ricky but Hec didn’t so this caused a weird relationship between Hec and Ricky. They didn’t show the conflict at the start but they told the story to make the audience think what this may have looked like/felt like. The director did this to make the film interesting during the forest hunt because they are not getting along 100% of the time, but Hec and Ricky start to get along. The manhunt worked out with Hec and Ricky’s relationship because it showed them starting to get used to the fact that they need each other in the forest. If Ricky and Hec didn’t get along at the start this would have been a boring manhunt.
