Electricity pt. 2

This is a series circuit with 2 bulbs and 1 battery.

This is a parallel circuit with 2 bulbs and 1 battery.

- The difference between a series and a parallel circuit is the parallel circuit splits apart and a series circuit goes through one path.

- Voltage and current in a circuit is.....
-- Voltage is how quickly the electrons move around the circuit. If we speed with the voltage the electrons move faster.  Voltage is the amount of energy the electrons are carrying.  We set the amount of voltage.
--Current is how fast and slow the electrons go.

Why a string of Christmas  tree lights be parallel not series ?
A string of Christmas tree lights would be a parallel circuit because if the lights are in a series if one bulb breaks so will the rest of the bulbs  because they are in a loop/ a continuous circuit but with a parallel circuit that one bulb would only break and the others would still be on.

Electricity

What is the particle that moves in a wire?

The particle that moves in a wire is electrons. Electrons move from the negative end to the positive end of a wire. Batteries are an example of a way to generate electric current.

If there is a high current in a circuit what does this mean?

A high current in a circuit is like a high current in a river. High current in a circuit means the energy is flowing fast.  The high energy is because there is lots of electrons moving faster.

How does electricity work to heat up a stove?

The electricity / energy gets stored and travels through wires into your home . The wires that connect into your house give you power.  The electrical gets transformed into heat energy and that is how it is formed into heat.

Where is DC electricity used?

Direct Current electricity is from battery.  eg used in aircraft's and batteries.

Where is AC electricity used ?

Alternating current electricity is used to operate plugs in industrial and commercial use.  eg plugs and lights.

Difference between current and static electricity summary.

The difference between current and static electricity is...

-Current electricity passes around in a circuit.

-Static electricity builds up until there is enough of them to pass on . This is  only way static electricity can move.

(in order to make a circuit work you need a conductor/ a source of energy. )

(an energy circuit doesn't work unless it is in a continuous flow. )

Static Electricity

Static means to stay still.
What are the 3 particles that make up everything ? Which ones are positive and negative?
Protons, Neutron and Electrons are the three particles that make up everything. Electrons are negative and Protons are positive.

Objects want to be  "electricity neutral" What does this mean?
Because they want to be balanced and the positive and negative electricity go together . They want the same positives and negative charges. If you have too many electrons it will not be neutral.

When you rub two insulators you can get a static shock, so what is an insulator and a conductor?
An insulator doesn't usually pass on energy its self. It passes the electrons onto you. It has built up electrons.
The electrons are being passed. Everything wants to be neutral. if they had too many negatives you will get a shock because they want the same number of protons and electrons.

What is an example of Static electricity?
A trampoline is an example of Static electricity because all the electrons are building up and are being passed onto you because they are not neutral. They have too many electrons are are trying to get rid of the extra electrons.

Chapter 12-13

During Chapter 12-13 we were learning a lot about how Timothy and Phillip were surviving on this new island while Phillip was blind and Timothy started to become ill.

How many days has Timothy and Phillip been on the cay?

- Timothy and Phillip now have been stuck on The Cay for 48 days.

What does Phillip do to Timothy to help him when he is sick?

- Phillip ripped a piece of old clothing from his shirt he was wearing and dipped it in the cool water and placed the cloth on Timothy's forehead to cool it down. Phillip also was making sure Timothy was staying still.

Why is Phillip ready to climb the coconut tree?

- Phillip blurted out that he was ready to climb the coconut tree after five weeks. Timothy also shouted once Phillip had caught the coconuts from the tree  "D' palm harass us no more." Phillip is also ready enough to climb the tree because he wants to help Timothy due to his illness and gather more of the food.

Why do you think Timothy is trying to teach Phillip these survival skills?

- I think Timothy is trying to teach Phillip these survival skills is because Timothy is getting more ill and will not be here for longer and needs to re-teach Phillip his skills he had before being blind.

What do you think Phillip means by his comment, "are you still black?"

- I think Phillip means by his comment is because his personality wasn't bad because he got to know more about Timothy instead on just judging a person before knowing who they truly are.

CH 6-8 Summary

Between Chapters 6-8 there was a lot of new things happening. Timothy and Phillip decided to go on a raft to go fishing but Timothy discovers a new smaller island. Timothy doesn't want to go on the new island but Phillip insists because there might be people on that island that could save them. They end up on the new island wanting to stay there for a few days, there is no people on this new island . Timothy keeps leaving Phillip and he doesn't like that he has been doing that because he is still blind. Then Timothy starts to look for food.
