Should Matariki be a public holiday?

Should Matariki be a public holiday? I think Matariki should be a holiday. New Zealand should have it as a holiday because it is a very important part/day for Maori. It includes their culture and they should get to celebrate the story behind it. Everyone should get to celebrate their own traditions equally. That is why I think it is fair that Matariki should be a public holiday in New Zealand. 

Is English the most important subject to learn in school

 Is English the most important subject in school? Learning English is important but not the most important subject to learn, we all should learn it still though. I do not think English is the most important because you need to learn more about resourceful things  eg. taxes and do the option subjects too. Learning more about careers and and useful things you might use in your day to day life is probably more efficient than English. But if you weren't to be taught English you wouldn't be able to read and write properly. Therefore that is why I think English is not the most important subject in school. 

Distillation

Separating a solution/mixture using evaporation + condensation.

Distillation: The scientific experiment used to show the processes of evaporation and condensation.  

Condensation: when you turn something back to a  "solid"

Evaporation: when a substance gets heated up and it turns from liquid to gas. 

Experiment/Aim: Separating coke and sugar free coke to see how much sugar is present.

We evaporated the liquid away and the sugar was left, the original coke had more sugar left behind 

than the coke zero, it had a little bit of added flavourings left behind. We thought that coke zero 

would have litter left and we were correct. The coke bubbled because it was being heated we

saw it condensing and forming droplets in the inside of the straw. We ended up with condensed

liquid because we heated it up.

When we transferred the liquid it travelled across the straw and we ended up with the water into the

test tube it was in the form of gas (it turned into a liquid because of the ice in the mini test tube 

inside of the beaker) The coke got cold from the ice and then condensed. 

Definitions of...

We have been learning about debates for a bit now. We are learning about debates because we have chosen a few statements that we agree with and are going to try and get people to vote for your  "team". These are some words that could be helpful in debating and the definitions of them. 

- Debating: A formal argument between people.

- Pro: You agree with the argument. 

- Con: You do not agree with the argument.

- Proposition: Meaning of pro

- Opposition: Meaning of con.

Behaviour reflection

At any school some students strive to achieve to reach the expectations that the school gives them. These are some of the expectations I do/don't.

Be focused on my task: I am focused on whatever we have to do that day I know I do this because I always get my work done and finished properly without any distractions. 

Be mindful of others: I am mindful of others during classes + break times I know I am mindful of others because I make everyone feel included.

Ask questions/ask for help: I always ask many questions and ask for help when I need help, I know I do this because I always understand the work properly and how the teacher wants me to do the work. 

Be an active listener: I know I do active listening because I am most always focused and listening properly- also according to my other blog posts about active listening.

Two example expectations that I don't do: 

I do not work well with everyone: I don't work well with everyone I know I don't do this expectation because everyone is different and some people don't always work well together including some people from my class are disrespectful to me.

Report online issues: I do not report all online problems because sometimes there is not a right time to say what happened and sometimes the behaviour unnecessary also it is just petty behaviour from other people.

What are pigments?

-Pigments are molecules that absorb, reflect or transmit the light. 

Today we will be doing another small experiment. Using chromatography to investigate the pigments that make up different colours.

Hypothesis: I think the colours will separate based on the different pigments. 

                   What happened?

-The colours separated into a few different colours and climbed up the paper.

What pigments were in the felt?

-In the colour purple there was pink and blue. 

Do now week 7 | your name is an important part of you

Your name is an important part of who you are. I think your name is an important for you. Everyone's name is different and unique, it is how people identify as it shows your individuality from everyone else. For example if you didn't have a name no one would know how to identify you or who you are.  Because of this,  I think your name is an important part of you.
